Tulle is often recognised by sewers and couturiers as an elegant fabric for eveningwear, veils and under-linings. Using tulle as an under-layer helps minimise fabric creep, strengthen seams and add body to the finished garment, while remaining relatively invisible and preserving the fabric’s handle and drape.
The use of tulle in embroidery works in much the same way. Sandwiching tulle between two layers of wash-away stabiliser gives freestanding lace greater strength, helps ensure the stitches remain uniform after washing, maintains a more consistent shape and generally extends the life of the finished piece.
